Differences in pay between women and men exist in all countries. The difference between their earnings, expressed as a percentage of men’s earnings, is estimated to be 23% globally. In other words, women earn on average 77% of what men earn.

Tackling the gender pay gap remains a key issue for unions.

The ILO have published a helpful summary of the issue and recently updated their online resource Tackling sex discrimination through pay equity

Other key resources include the IFJ’s Gender Pay Gap in Journalism document, Wage Indicators inventory of gender pay policies and digest of relevant collective agreement clauses.
